A LANGE &SOHNE -The CABARET MOONPHASE(2004)

Unquestionably the most capricious of all Lange timepieces, it is no coincidence that the captivating CABARET borrows its name from this charming form of entertainment on small stages. It embodies all of the remarkable features that characterise a watch crafted by “A. Lange & Söhne”. For instance, it tells the time with gold hands and appliques. And the rectangular dial showcases the outsize date in a surprisingly dramatic manner, seemingly defying the laws of proportions. Yet it is not an apparition. After all, the patented twin-disc mechanism hidden beneath the double aperture already propelled the date display into a new dimension ten years ago, inspiring the entire watchmaking industry to rethink its conventional interpretations.



So far, the subsidiary seconds dial has been a cherished visual counterpoint to the date in the CABARET; it is at once a witty eyecatcher and a harmonising style element within the ensemble. Now, in the new CABARET MOONPHASE, it shares the limelight with a classic moon-phase display. The new lunar arena faithfully choreographs the orbit of the earth’s companion. It is a true enrichment and no less than a must for night owls and astronomy buffs.But the CABARET’s performance backstage is impressive as well. The calibre L931.5 form movement, exposed through the sapphire-crystal caseback, is a feast for the eyes that reveals countless aspects of the Lange quality philosophy: A three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver, subtle Glashütte ribbing, gold chatons secured with blued screws, a screw balance with a whiplash precision index adjuster, and a handengraved balance cock, the prominent component on which experienced masters apply the artistic signature that transforms all Lange watches into endearing one-of-a-kind treasures.



The manually wound movement of the CABARET MOONPHASE delivers 42 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The moon-phase mechanism integrated in the movement switches forward once a day between 5 and 7 p.m. If the watch has stood still for a longer period of time, the moon can also be advanced day by day with a push piece recessed in the side of the case. A one-push correction is also needed when the mechanical deviation of the moon disc, which with its two moons and 59 teeth emulates two lunar orbits per revolution, has accumulated to a full day. Because the synodic orbit of the moon is 29.5306 days rather than precisely 29 days, this will be necessary every 32 months.
